The Barolo DOCG Francia 2022 from Giacomo Conterno is a great, classically styled Barolo from Serralunga d’Alba. It is made exclusively from Nebbiolo grown in the renowned Francia cru. The southwest-facing vineyards are planted on calcareous marl, conditions that contribute to the wine’s structure and mineral precision. The Francia vineyard has belonged to the Conterno family since 1974 and remains a central part of its Barolo tradition. Winemaking follows a firmly traditional approach.

After three to four weeks of fermentation and maceration in wooden vats, the wine matures for around four years in large casks. This long, restrained ageing preserves the distinctive expression of Nebbiolo while combining power with remarkable elegance. The 2022 shows impressive depth, freshness and excellent potential for long-term bottle ageing. In the glass, it displays a uniform ruby-red colour. The complex bouquet combines cherry and redcurrant with raspberry, floral notes, spices and mineral nuances. On the palate, it is precise and balanced, with fine-grained tannins, vibrant acidity and a long, focused, mineral-driven finish.
