The Arena 2022 from Oberstein Winery is a distinctive red wine from Tscherms in South Tyrol, expressing the elegance of the Vernatsch grape in a remarkable way. A small proportion of Lagrein complements the blend, adding further depth. The vines grow on steep, southeast-facing slopes at altitudes between 400 and 500 metres. Sandy soils formed from weathered granite characterise the vineyard site. The name Arena refers both to these sandy soils and to the amphitheatre-like shape of the vineyards.
The vines, some up to 80 years old, are traditionally trained using the pergola system. During fermentation, a portion of the grapes is processed together with their stems. The wine then matures in wooden barrels, stainless steel tanks and finally in the bottle. This careful ageing process enhances its refined structure and distinctive character.
In the glass, the Arena displays an elegant garnet-red colour. Its bouquet reveals aromas of ripe cherries with a delicate hint of almond. On the palate, it is complex and harmonious, offering elegant fruit flavours and a long, refined finish.
