Fliederhof – A Family Winery with a Rich Heritage in Bolzano
Fliederhof Winery, located in St. Magdalena near Bolzano, represents authentic South Tyrolean wines, traditional craftsmanship and a deeply rooted family history. On the hills overlooking the city of Bolzano, the Ramoser family cultivates its vineyards with great care and a keen understanding of the natural environment. Covering just three hectares of vineyards, the estate produces distinctive wines that reflect their origins and the unmistakable character of the growing region.
The history of this family-run winery dates back to 1930, when Maria Ebnicher Ramoser, affectionately known as Marie, inherited Fliederhof from her uncle. She laid the foundations for the family's winemaking tradition on the St. Magdalena hillside. Today, Martin Ramoser continues this heritage, combining generations of experience with fresh ideas and a nature-conscious approach to viticulture.
Unique Vineyard Sites on the St. Magdalena Hillside
Fliederhof's vineyards are situated east of Bolzano, in one of South Tyrol's most traditional wine-growing areas. Located at elevations between approximately 300 and 340 metres above sea level, the vines benefit from abundant sunshine, a distinctive microclimate and well-ventilated slopes.
The soils are remarkably diverse, ranging from clay-rich glacial moraine deposits and river gravel to sandy sediments and weathered quartz porphyry. These different soil compositions give each vineyard parcel its individual characteristics.
Some vineyard slopes reach gradients of up to 40%, making careful manual work an essential part of cultivation. Particular attention is given to soil fertility, natural ground cover and maintaining a healthy balance between the vines and their surrounding environment.
Schiava and Lagrein – Fliederhof's Signature Grape Varieties
Wine production at Fliederhof focuses primarily on two traditional South Tyrolean grape varieties: Schiava/Vernatsch and Lagrein. They form the foundation of distinctive red wines that express the diverse characteristics of the St. Magdalena wine-growing area.
One of the estate's specialities is St. Magdalener Classico DOC, produced predominantly from Schiava with a small proportion of Lagrein. The classic Marie is characterised by its harmonious, fruit-forward style, while Gran Marie is crafted from carefully selected grapes grown on particularly old vines.
Lagrein also plays an important role in the winery's portfolio. Alongside the classic Lagrein, the range includes Gran Helen Lagrein Riserva. Careful grape selection and maturation in wooden barrels produce structured, expressive red wines. With the unfiltered Schiava Gaia, Fliederhof also presents a distinctive interpretation of this traditional grape variety.
