The Amarone della Valpolicella Classico DOCG Nino Zeni 2018 comes from the historic Valpolicella Classico zone north of Verona in Veneto. The grapes grow on hilly soils composed mainly of clay and silt and are harvested entirely by hand. Only perfectly healthy grapes are selected for this Amarone and then dried for several months using the traditional appassimento method. During this process water evaporates and sugars, extract and aromas become more concentrated. Fermentation takes place slowly in wooden vats with extended skin contact. The wine then matures for several years in oak casks and partly in barriques, developing depth, structure and excellent aging potential. 

The blend is made from the classic Valpolicella grape varieties: Corvina (about 60%), Corvinone (about 20%) and Rondinella (about 20%). Corvina forms the aromatic backbone with intense fruit and structure, Corvinone contributes body and subtle spice, while Rondinella adds color and balance. 

The 2018 vintage offered balanced climatic conditions that allowed the grapes to reach good phenolic ripeness, resulting in Amarone wines with elegance and harmony. In the glass the wine shows a deep ruby red color with garnet reflections. The bouquet is intense and complex with aromas of dried fruit, spices, chocolate, cinnamon and toasted almonds. On the palate it is powerful and structured, yet smooth and enveloping, with a long and persistent finish.
