The Merlot Vigna Mühlweg 2022 from Ignaz Niedrist comes from Girlan in South Tyrol's Überetsch region, combining powerful elegance with the distinctive character of its origin. The single vineyard Mühlweg, from which the wine takes its name, is situated on a well-ventilated, west-facing slope at approximately 420 metres above sea level. Mineral-rich moraine soils containing porphyry, granite and gneiss provide particularly favourable conditions for grape ripening.

The wine is crafted from several Merlot clones and approximately ten per cent Cabernet Franc. The grapes are carefully harvested and selected by hand. Fermentation takes place in oak vats, followed by malolactic fermentation and 14 months of ageing on fine lees in barriques. This traditional winemaking approach enhances the wine's complex structure and expressive character. In the glass, it displays an intense ruby-red colour. The bouquet reveals aromas of sour cherries, ripe plums and delicate spices. On the palate, it is full-bodied and juicy, with velvety tannins, vibrant freshness and a powerful, lingering finish.
