The Barolo DOCG Per Cristina 2014 by Domenico Clerico is one of the estate’s most prestigious wines and is produced only in the finest vintages. The grapes come from the renowned Mosconi cru in Monforte d’Alba, an area famous for deeply structured, age-worthy Barolos. Here, on limestone and marl-rich soils with favourable exposure, Nebbiolo develops remarkable aromatic intensity, complexity, and depth. Monforte d’Alba is particularly known for producing Barolos with concentration, elegance, and outstanding ageing potential. The wine matures for many years in the cellar, making it one of Domenico Clerico’s most iconic expressions. In the glass, it reveals a deep garnet-red colour. The bouquet is complex and layered, offering aromas of ripe red fruits, dark berries, rose petals, and violets, accompanied by spicy nuances, tobacco, leather, and delicate balsamic notes. On the palate, the wine is powerful yet refined, with impressive structure, silky tannins, and a long, elegant, and remarkably persistent finish.

The Domenico Clerico 2019 Barolo Ginestra Ciabot Mentin (with 5,500 bottles made with fruit from vines planted in 1978) is a bit closed initially. This is a trait I found across a vintage that gives us good reason to bet on long bottle-aging potential. There is dark fruit and spice with licorice and grilled herb. Rusty mineral nuances also emerge slowly from the bouquet. This wine needs a double decant if consumed on the young side, but you're better off waiting. I came back to my open sample 24 hours later, and the wine was singing beautifully.

Rich ruby red with brightening edges. Inviting scent of cherries, ripe raspberries and plums, leather and sweet tobacco. Strong and juicy on the palate, precise fruit notes, a bit exhausting on the finish.
