The Chardonnay Riserva DOC Punggl Vigna Crivelli 2023 from Peter Zemmer is an elegant South Tyrolean white wine from one of the finest areas around Magrè in the Alto Adige region. The grapes come from the single vineyard “Vigna Crivelli” in the Punggl area, where alluvial soils of fine sand, silt and clay, combined with a microclimate marked by strong day-night temperature variations, create ideal conditions for Chardonnay. Quality is further enhanced by the cooling air currents from the surrounding mountains. After hand harvesting, the grapes are gently processed and undergo a short cold maceration to enhance aromatic expression. Fermentation takes place partly in small French oak barrels and partly in stainless steel, followed by approximately 18 months of aging and additional bottle refinement. This extended maturation defines the “Riserva” designation, adding depth, structure and aging potential. Chardonnay is one of the world’s most important white grape varieties and in South Tyrol it expresses a particularly elegant and mineral style. In the glass, it shows a color ranging from straw yellow to golden. On the nose, intense aromas of ripe apricot and tropical fruit emerge, accompanied by delicate oak notes. On the palate, it is structured, balanced and slightly saline, with fresh acidity, a creamy texture and a long, harmonious finish.
