The Pinot Noir DOC Mazon 2024 from Castelfeder comes from selected vineyards in Mazon, above Egna in South Tyrol. The plateau lies at an elevation of around 300 to 450 metres. The north-west facing vineyards benefit from long evening sunshine and cool descending winds that bring a noticeable drop in temperature later in the day. The soils are clay-based, with varying proportions of limestone and porphyry. With the 2024 vintage, Mazon is included among South Tyrol’s newly defined Additional Geographical Units, known as UGA. After hand harvesting, the grapes undergo a maceration of 10 to 14 days in stainless steel tanks. The wine then matures for twelve months in small oak barrels, followed by at least three months of bottle ageing. It pairs particularly well with red meat, game and richly flavoured pasta dishes. In the glass, it shows an intense ruby-red colour. The nose is characterised by aromas of red berries. On the palate, it is round and powerful, with a full body, pronounced structure and a complex, persistent finish.
