Kränzelhof Winery
Ansitz Kränzel, also known as Kränzelhof Winery, is located in Cermes near Merano and is one of South Tyrol's historic wine estates. Wine has been cultivated on this traditional property for centuries. Today, the von Pfeil family manages the estate with a clear focus on organic viticulture, gentle grape processing and distinctive wines that reflect their origins.
Vineyards and Terroir around Merano
The Kränzelhof vineyards stretch across sunny slopes in the Merano basin, at elevations ranging from approximately 300 to 600 metres above sea level. Different altitudes, loose moraine soils and the combination of Alpine and Mediterranean climatic influences create diverse conditions for winegrowing. The characteristics of each vineyard shape the grapes and contribute to the wide variety of wine styles produced at the estate.
Grape Varieties at Ansitz Kränzel
Kränzelhof Winery cultivates a broad selection of white and red grape varieties. The main white varieties include Pinot Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Gewürztraminer. Among the red varieties, Pinot Noir, Lagrein, Schiava, Merlot and Cabernet play an important role.
The Pinot varieties are particularly significant at Kränzelhof. While Pinot Blanc is known for its freshness and elegance, Pinot Noir produces refined, complex red wines. Lagrein and Cabernet complement the range with more powerful, structured wines.
Organic Viticulture and Individual Winemaking
At Ansitz Kränzel, respect for nature is at the heart of the winery's philosophy. The vineyards are cultivated organically, without the use of herbicides or artificial fertilisers. Careful manual vineyard work and controlled yields provide the foundation for high-quality grapes. In the cellar, Kränzelhof aims to preserve the natural character of the grapes as much as possible. The wines are produced in three ranges: Klassisch, Brilliant and Kunstwerke. The result is a diverse selection of South Tyrolean white and red wines, ranging from fresh and fruit-driven styles to complex, expressive wines with excellent ageing potential.
