The Lagrein Passito IGT “Paul” 2022 from Kiemberger Estate is a characterful sweet wine from South Tyrol, dedicated to the family’s son. The grapes come from vineyards around Andrian and are traditionally dried after harvest before processing. This method gives the wine its concentration and depth. It is then aged in wooden barrels, further enhancing its powerful style. Lagrein is one of South Tyrol’s most important indigenous grape varieties and thrives in the areas around Bolzano and Terlan. In its passito version, it develops a particularly rich and concentrated style, offering more intensity and structure than classic Lagrein. In the glass, it shows a dark and concentrated colour. The nose reveals ripe dark fruit, accompanied by spicy and slightly smoky notes, along with hints of cocoa and dried fruit. On the palate, it is dense and full, with velvety tannins, balanced sweetness and a lively structure. The finish is long, intense and complex.
