The Merlot DOC 2023 from Alois Lageder Winery is an elegant organic red wine from South Tyrol, expressing the fruity and spicy character of the Merlot grape. The grapes come from selected vineyards in Margreid and Auer, situated at altitudes between 210 and 280 metres. Sandy, stony and limestone-rich soils provide favourable conditions for grape ripening. Merlot cultivation has a particularly long tradition in Margreid. Fermentation on the skins takes place in stainless steel tanks. Following malolactic fermentation, the wine matures for approximately twelve months in stainless steel vessels, concrete tanks and wooden barrels. This combination of different ageing vessels supports the development of a harmonious structure while preserving the grape variety's distinctive character. In the glass, the Merlot displays a clear, dark cherry-red colour. Its delicate bouquet combines fruity berry aromas with subtle spicy nuances. On the palate, it is medium-bodied, juicy and well-balanced, with pleasant fruit flavours, lively spice and a harmonious structure.
