The St. Magdalener Classico DOC "Der Pfannenstiel" 2021 is an exceptional red wine from South Tyrol, showcasing the remarkable potential of this historic wine-growing region. This blend of 95% Vernatsch and 5% Lagrein combines the distinctive fruit character of both grape varieties with remarkable elegance, depth and complexity.
At Pfannenstielhof in Bolzano, Johannes and Veronika Pfeifer are passionately dedicated to cultivating indigenous grape varieties. For this special wine, the grapes are deliberately harvested later, while yields are kept low. Its distinctive character comes from an exceptionally long ageing process: four and a half years in stainless steel tanks, followed by another six months in the bottle. The complete absence of oak preserves its fruit character and highlights its unique personality. The result is a sophisticated St. Magdalener that is ready to enjoy upon release while offering further ageing potential.
In the glass, it displays a deep, vibrant ruby-red colour. Its complex bouquet reveals intense aromas of ripe cherries, complemented by notes of bay leaf and a delicate hint of cocoa. On the palate, it impresses with concentrated fruit, elegant spice and juicy freshness. Velvety tannins provide a refined structure, while delicate red berry aromas characterise its long, lingering finish.
