The Merlot Riserva DOC 2022 from St. Pauls Winery is an expressive South Tyrolean red wine that combines the classic Merlot style with maturity, depth and structural precision. Kellerei St. Pauls is among the most renowned wine cooperatives in South Tyrol and is known for producing terroir-driven wines with high quality standards. The Riserva designation, referring specifically to this wine, indicates an extended ageing period compared to a standard DOC Merlot, resulting in greater complexity, harmony and ageing potential. The stylistic focus is clearly on balance, elegance and structural clarity, without losing sight of the grape’s varietal fruit expression. This wine is produced from 100% Merlot, a grape variety that finds ideal conditions in South Tyrol thanks to sunny vineyard sites and pronounced day–night temperature differences, allowing for aromatic depth and precision. In the glass, the Merlot Riserva DOC 2022 displays a deep ruby red colour with dark reflections. On the nose, it is concentrated and complex, showing aromas of ripe dark berries, black cherry and plum, complemented by subtle spicy nuances and delicate hints of cocoa. On the palate, the wine is dense, harmonious and well structured, with ripe, well-integrated tannins and balanced acidity. The fruit remains clear and focused, supported by depth and length, while the finish is persistent and elegant. The Merlot Riserva DOC 2022 presents itself as a serious, mature South Tyrolean red wine with poise, substance and character.
