South Tyrolean Überetsch

Kalterersee Auslese DOC from St. Pauls Winery comes from vineyards in the Überetsch area around Lake Kaltern in South Tyrol. The vines grow on warm alluvial and gravel soils that store heat and benefit from the mild local climate. These conditions allow the grapes to ripen evenly and contribute to the fresh and fruit-driven style typical of this traditional wine. After harvest, the grapes are gently processed and the must ferments at controlled temperatures. The wine is mainly matured in stainless steel tanks in order to preserve freshness and varietal character. It is classified as Alto Adige DOC – Kalterersee (Lake Kaltern) Auslese, one of South Tyrol’s most traditional red wine styles.

The wine is produced primarily from the Vernatsch grape variety, an indigenous variety that has been cultivated around Lake Kaltern for centuries. This grape is known for producing elegant and rather light red wines with moderate tannins and lively freshness. In the glass the wine shows a light ruby-red colour. The bouquet reveals aromas of cherry and red berries with subtle floral notes. On the palate it is soft, fresh and fruity, with gentle tannins and a harmonious, well-balanced finish.
