South Tyrolean Überetsch

Lagrein Kretzer DOC from St. Pauls Winery is a typical rosé wine from South Tyrol made from the indigenous Lagrein grape variety. The vineyards are located around the village of St. Pauls in the Überetsch area, on sandy and well-drained soils at elevations of about 250 to 350 metres above sea level. These relatively warm sites allow the grapes to ripen well and produce elegant, fruit-driven rosé wines. After harvest, the grapes are gently processed and the must ferments at controlled temperatures in stainless steel tanks to preserve freshness and aromatic purity. The wine is classified as Alto Adige DOC and reflects the traditional rosé style of the region. Lagrein is one of South Tyrol’s most important indigenous red grape varieties and is historically linked to the area around Bolzano. It usually produces structured red wines, but for Lagrein Kretzer the juice remains in contact with the skins only briefly, creating a fresh and vibrant rosé. The term “Kretzer” in South Tyrol traditionally refers to rosé wines made from red grapes with very short skin contact. In the glass the wine shows a pale rosé colour. The nose reveals aromas of raspberry and cherry. On the palate it is fresh and fruity with balanced structure and a harmonious, pleasantly juicy finish.
