The 2024 Rosenmuskateller from Ansitz Waldgries is a rare South Tyrolean speciality made from 100% Rosenmuskateller. The vines grow in St. Magdalena near Bolzano on a south-west-facing slope at around 250 metres above sea level. The site is characterised by sandy glacial gravel and weathered porphyry soils. Rosenmuskateller has a long tradition at Waldgries and is one of the native red grape varieties to which the estate gives particular attention. A large proportion of the grapes remain on the vine for an extended period or are air-dried after harvest, while another portion is picked late. Ageing takes place in stainless steel. The result is a concentrated, aromatic sweet wine that pairs particularly well with chocolate desserts, poppy seed strudel, gingerbread and pastries made with nuts or almonds. In the glass, the wine shows a deep ruby-red colour. The nose reveals rose petals, cloves, cinnamon and nutmeg. On the palate, it is dense and harmonious, with pronounced sweetness balanced by fresh acidity and a noticeable tannic structure.
