The Lagrein Riserva DOC 2023 by Hans Rottensteiner reflects the deep connection between this indigenous South Tyrolean grape variety and its historic homeland around Bolzano. Lagrein is one of South Tyrol’s oldest native grapes and thrives particularly well in the warm, deep alluvial soils of the Bolzano basin. The grapes for this wine come from vineyards near the Talvera river, an area that plays a key role in shaping the wine’s richness, structure, and distinctive character. After fermentation in concrete tanks, the wine matures in large oak casks, preserving the purity of the fruit while adding further depth and balance. As a Riserva, the wine benefits from extended ageing, resulting in greater complexity, harmony, and elegance.

In the glass, the wine shows an intense ruby red colour with violet reflections that may develop garnet nuances over time. The bouquet reveals classic Lagrein aromas of violet, dark chocolate, and liquorice, accompanied by delicate spicy notes. On the palate, it is dry, full-bodied, and velvety, with well-integrated tannins leading to a harmonious and persistent finish.
