Kalterersee Auslese DOC Vigna Bischofsleiten
The Kalterersee Auslese Vigna Bischofsleiten 2025 from Castel Sallegg originates from a historic single vineyard directly overlooking Lake Kaltern in South Tyrol. The steep vineyard lies between 230 and 280 metres above sea level and features deep, humus-rich soils with limestone gravel. The designation "Vigna" highlights its origin from this clearly defined vineyard, where old vines are traditionally trained on pergolas.
The wine is made exclusively from Vernatsch grapes. Following careful hand harvesting, the grapes are destemmed and fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Malolactic fermentation follows, before the wine matures for six months in stainless steel, with a small portion aged in used tonneaux. This gentle winemaking process preserves its characteristic fruit-driven style.
In the glass, the wine displays a bright cherry-red colour. The bouquet reveals aromas of sour cherries, redcurrants and violets, complemented by delicate spicy nuances. On the palate, it is fresh and elegant, with soft tannins, a subtle hint of almond and lively fruit flavours. A long, harmonious finish completes its well-balanced character.
