The Chardonnay Marei 2023 from Castel Sallegg originates from the historic Seehof vineyards in Kaltern, close to Lake Kaltern in South Tyrol. The vines grow at approximately 230 metres above sea level on humus-rich, sandy loam soils containing limestone gravel. The distinctive location and careful vineyard management provide the foundation for an expressive South Tyrolean Chardonnay with elegance and character.
The grapes come from selected old vines and are harvested by hand. Following gentle pressing, fermentation takes place equally in stainless steel tanks and French oak barrels. The wine then matures for twelve months on the fine lees, followed by at least another six months of bottle ageing. This meticulous winemaking process gives it a creamy texture and remarkable complexity.
In the glass, Marei displays a brilliant golden-yellow colour. The bouquet reveals aromas of yellow peach, ripe mango and citrus fruits, complemented by delicate mineral notes of flint. On the palate, it is full-bodied, creamy and powerful, with velvety fruit, harmoniously integrated acidity and elegant minerality. A long, expressive finish completes its refined character.
