Cabernet Sauvignon Riserva DOC Weinegg
The Cabernet Sauvignon Riserva DOC Weinegg 2023 from Thurnhof Winery is a powerful red wine from South Tyrol, made from Cabernet Sauvignon with a small proportion of Merlot. Its name comes from the medieval Weineck Castle, which once stood near the estate. The vineyards are located on the sunny southern slopes of Virgl Hill near Bolzano, where deep soils composed of porphyry debris and glacial moraine deposits shape the growing conditions.
The grapes are harvested at an advanced stage of ripeness. Following an extended fermentation in stainless steel tanks, the wine matures for 12 to 18 months in small and large oak barrels. Additional bottle ageing enhances its development and complexity. Its considerable ageing potential also makes it an excellent candidate for long-term cellaring.
In the glass, the Weinegg displays a deep, dark red colour. Its intense bouquet reveals aromas of blackcurrants, elderberries and blackberries. On the palate, it is concentrated and full-bodied, with pronounced tannins, rich fruit flavours and a powerful, long-lasting character.
