Merlot Riserva DOC Kressfeld
The Merlot Riserva DOC Kressfeld 2020 from Kornell Winery ranks among South Tyrol's most distinguished red wines. It comes from approximately 40-year-old Merlot vines growing on the estate's historic hillside in Siebeneich, near Terlan. The single vineyard Kressfeld, from which the wine takes its name, lies at an altitude of 280 metres. Its weathered porphyry soils provide the foundation for a wine of remarkable character, combining power, depth and elegance.
The winemaking process is defined by patience and meticulous attention to detail. Fermentation on the skins takes place over 25 days in tonneaux, followed by 18 months of ageing in new barrique barrels. The wine then matures for a further 24 months in the bottle. This extended ageing process allows the Merlot to develop its complex aromas and a harmonious, velvety structure. An expressive Riserva with remarkable refinement and a distinctive personality.
In the glass, the Kressfeld impresses with its deep, intensely shimmering ruby-red colour. Its complex bouquet combines ripe plums, fruit preserves and spicy nuances with delicate hints of chocolate, tobacco and eucalyptus. On the palate, it is full-bodied, elegant and velvety, with soft, finely polished tannins. The surprisingly fresh finish gives this exceptional Merlot an impressive balance between richness and finesse
