The Nussbaum Merlot Riserva 2022 from Klosterhof Estate is produced from vineyards located in the Trifall-Feigenhof area near Caldaro. The south-facing vines grow at around 430 metres above sea level on clay and limestone-rich soils, providing favourable conditions for the cultivation of Merlot. The grapes are harvested by hand and carefully selected to ensure excellent fruit quality. Following fermentation in large oak casks, the wine matures for twelve months in French barriques. The individual lots are then blended and aged for a further six months in large wooden barrels. This extended ageing process adds depth, structure and complexity while enhancing the distinctive character expected from a Riserva wine. In the glass, it displays a deep purple-red colour. The bouquet reveals aromas of blackberry and wild cherry, complemented by subtle hints of liquorice. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, well-structured and persistent, offering excellent balance and harmony. Gentle toasted notes from the oak ageing round out the flavour profile and lead to a long, elegant finish.
