Lagrein Riserva DOC Staffes
The Lagrein Riserva DOC Staffes 2023 from Kornell Winery is an expressive red wine from South Tyrol, combining the powerful character of the Lagrein grape with elegance and finesse. The grapes come from Siebeneich near Terlan, where the vines grow in weathered porphyry soils at an altitude of around 270 metres. The Staffes range represents the historic heart of the estate. Its name originates from a place name dating back to the 13th century and recalls the wooden stakes once used to support the vines.
Fermentation takes place in wooden vats for approximately 18 to 25 days. The wine then matures for twelve months in barrique barrels, followed by another twelve months of bottle ageing. This careful maturation process adds depth to the Lagrein and supports the harmonious development of its powerful structure and complex aromas. In the glass, the Staffes displays an elegant, deep purple-red colour. Its intense bouquet combines aromas of ripe cherries, blackberries and violets with spicy notes of dark chocolate and liquorice. On the palate, it impresses with its powerful body, velvety tannins and lively freshness. The complex, lingering finish highlights the distinctive yet elegant character of this Riserva.
