South Tyrolean Überetsch

Müller Thurgau DOC from St. Pauls Winery originates from vineyards surrounding the village of St. Pauls in the Überetsch area of South Tyrol. The vines grow on hillside vineyards at elevations of roughly 450 to 550 metres above sea level. The soils are deep and often rich in clay, providing good water retention while contributing a subtle mineral character to the wine. After harvest, the grapes are gently processed and the must ferments at controlled temperatures in stainless steel tanks in order to preserve the natural aromatic freshness of the variety. The wine is also matured in stainless steel, resulting in a clean, precise and elegant style. It is classified as Alto Adige / Südtirol DOC and is typically enjoyed young to highlight its lively character. The Müller Thurgau grape variety was created in the 19th century by Swiss researcher Hermann Müller from the canton of Thurgau. It is generally considered a cross between Riesling and Madeleine Royale and is known for producing aromatic wines with bright freshness. In the higher vineyards of South Tyrol, the variety develops particularly elegant and fragrant wines with fine fruit and balance. In the glass the wine shows a pale straw-yellow colour with greenish reflections. The bouquet reveals delicate aromas of peach with a subtle hint of nutmeg and light floral nuances. On the palate it is fresh and balanced, with clear structure, gentle mineral notes and a pleasantly savoury finish that enhances its drinkability.
