The Lagrein Riserva DOC Select 2023 from H. Rottensteiner reflects the rich tradition of South Tyrolean red wines and comes from old vineyards in the historic Gries district near Bolzano. The vines are more than 40 years old and produce highly concentrated grapes. After fermentation in concrete tanks, the wine matures for twelve months in barriques and then for a further twelve months in large oak casks. This extended aging period gives the wine additional complexity and depth. The Riserva designation indicates a wine that has undergone a longer maturation process and a particularly careful élevage, enhancing both its structure and aging potential.

The careful selection of the grapes and the traditional aging process highlight the character of this native South Tyrolean variety. The balance of fruit, spice, and subtle oak influence makes this Lagrein an excellent partner for hearty meat dishes, game, and aged cheeses while expressing the distinctive terroir of Gries. In the glass, it displays an intense ruby red color with garnet reflections. The bouquet is complex, offering aromas of dark berries and cherries, complemented by delicate spicy notes, hints of cocoa, and subtle toasted nuances. On the palate, it is full-bodied yet velvety, with well-integrated tannins, a harmonious structure, and a long, elegant finish.
