The AM SAND Gewürztraminer Mitterberg IGT 2023 from Alois Lageder is an organic and biodynamically produced white wine from South Tyrol. Its grapes come from different vineyard sites whose combination gives the wine freshness, depth and a distinctive saline tension. In warmer locations, a deliberately early harvest is used for part of the crop to preserve the grapes’ vibrancy and precision. The result is a Gewürztraminer that combines aromatic intensity with finesse and clearly defined structure. The vines grow on sandy, gravel-rich soils with a high limestone content. After spontaneous fermentation, the wine matures for around nine months on its fine lees, partly in stainless-steel tanks and partly in large wooden casks. A portion is vinified in contact with whole bunches. This careful approach creates a balanced interplay of expression, freshness and structure. It pairs particularly well with flavourful starters, grilled or roasted fish, shellfish, poultry, Asian dishes and washed-rind cheeses. In the glass, it appears clear and intensely golden yellow. The expressive bouquet recalls quince, passion fruit and mango, accompanied by spicy and mineral nuances. On the palate, it is full-bodied, balanced and fresh, with fruity, spicy depth and a very long finish.
