Gewürztraminer DOC Praepositus
The Gewürztraminer DOC Praepositus 2024 from Novacella Abbey comes from the Brixen basin in South Tyrol’s Isarco Valley. The vines grow at elevations of 600 to 650 metres in south- to southwest-facing sites. Light, gravelly moraine soils with mica schist, paragneiss and quartzite shape the distinctive conditions of these high-altitude vineyards. The Praepositus line represents the Abbey’s most prestigious and age-worthy wines. Grapes for this selection come from carefully chosen vineyard sites that have proven particularly suitable over many decades. The Gewürztraminer is fermented in stainless steel and then matures there for ten months. It pairs especially well with aromatic dishes such as Gorgonzola risotto with pear and walnuts, prawns with a mild curry sauce, or lobster with asparagus. In the glass, the wine shows a bright golden-yellow colour. Its intense and elegant bouquet combines orange, rose petals and lychee with spicy notes of ginger and coriander. On the palate, it is juicy and spicy, while remaining fresh, mineral and lively.
