The Gaia 2023 from Fliederhof is an exceptional Vernatsch from South Tyrol, captivating with its authentic character, lively structure and distinctive personality. This single-varietal red wine comes from the traditional St. Magdalener growing area above Bolzano and represents a particularly natural and unconventional interpretation of this historic grape variety.
The vines grow at elevations between 300 and 340 metres, trained on traditional pergolas in soils characterised by glacial moraine deposits, river gravel and quartz porphyry. The carefully hand-harvested grapes undergo spontaneous fermentation with their stems. After approximately one week of skin contact, the wine matures in a previously used French oak barrique. It is neither fined nor filtered, preserving its authentic character. The name Gaia, inspired by the Greek goddess of the Earth, reflects this special connection to nature.
In the glass, it displays the relatively light red colour typical of Vernatsch. Its bouquet is lively and multifaceted. On the palate, it impresses with an expressive structure, pronounced acidity and distinctive tannins, creating tension, depth and an unmistakable personality.
