The Lagrein Riserva Gran Helen 2022 from Fliederhof Winery is a distinctive South Tyrolean red wine that combines the unique origins of its grapes with powerful elegance and remarkable depth. Made exclusively from Lagrein grapes, this Riserva is named after Helene Ramoser, who laid the foundations for this exceptional wine in 1995 with two barrique barrels.
The grapes come from a single south-facing vineyard in the traditional St. Magdalena wine-growing area near Bolzano, at approximately 300 metres above sea level. The soils are characterised by clay-rich glacial moraine deposits, river gravel and weathered quartz porphyry. Following temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel tanks, the wine matures for twelve months in French barriques and tonneaux before undergoing further refinement in large wooden barrels. The Riserva designation reflects its extended maturation, while the name "Gran" highlights the careful selection of high-quality grapes.
In the glass, it displays a deep garnet-red colour. Its complex bouquet reveals aromas of dark berries, cherries and violets, complemented by delicate notes of cocoa and spices. On the palate, it is full-bodied, balanced and powerful, with velvety tannins, spicy depth and a long, harmonious finish.
