The Lagrein DOC Scharfegg 2024 from Pitzner Estate originates from traditional Lagrein vineyards located in the Bolzano districts of Rencio and Gries at elevations between 270 and 290 metres above sea level. The vines are planted in deep, clay-rich alluvial soils that provide ideal conditions for producing expressive and characterful red wines. The mild valley climate and careful vineyard management help the grapes achieve optimal ripeness while preserving their varietal identity. Following manual harvest, the grapes are handled with great care. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks with approximately ten to twelve days of skin contact. The wine then undergoes malolactic fermentation and matures for several months in French barriques. This ageing process adds depth and structure while maintaining the freshness and fruit-driven style typical of Lagrein. In the glass, it displays an intense garnet-red colour with violet reflections. The bouquet combines aromas of dark berries with delicate hints of violet, leather and eucalyptus. On the palate, it is smooth and balanced, supported by silky tannins, subtle toasted notes and a touch of pepper spice. Fresh acidity enhances the fruit character and leads to a persistent finish.
