The Merlot Riserva DOC MR 2023 from Pitzner Estate originates from vineyards located in the Rencio area of Bolzano at approximately 270 metres above sea level. The vines are planted in deep, clay-rich alluvial soils that provide excellent conditions for producing structured yet elegant red wines. Careful vineyard management and favourable growing conditions allow the grapes to achieve optimal ripeness and aromatic concentration. Following a short maceration period, fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks with around twenty days of skin contact. The wine then undergoes malolactic fermentation and matures for twelve months in French barriques, including a proportion of new oak barrels. Additional bottle ageing further enhances balance, complexity and overall harmony. In the glass, it reveals a deep and intense ruby-red colour. The bouquet offers aromas of ripe dark berries combined with subtle spice and delicate hints of vanilla. On the palate, the wine is smooth, juicy and elegant. Notes of tobacco, leather and gentle mocha add further depth, while the long and persistent finish highlights the refined character of this Merlot Riserva.
