The Lagrein Riserva DOC Sconius 2021 from Weingut Pföstl comes from Schenna near Merano. Lagrein is an indigenous grape variety of South Tyrol and stands for dark, expressive red wines with a strong regional identity. As a Riserva, this wine is given more time to mature, developing additional depth, structure and concentration. Ageing in barrique adds further spice and underlines its powerful character. At the table, it pairs well with substantial dishes such as game, beef and aged cheese. It also works especially well with hearty South Tyrolean cuisine, while retaining clarity and focus. In the glass, it shows a very dark ruby red colour. The aroma recalls blueberries, violets, dark chocolate and fine spice. On the palate, it is full, concentrated and long, with dark fruit, fine tannin and a powerful finish.
