The Cabernet Franc Riserva DOC Amistar 2023 from Peter Sölva Winery is an expressive red wine from South Tyrol, combining the elegance and power of the Cabernet Franc grape. The grapes come from the Gföllhof vineyard in Leifers, situated at an altitude of around 220 metres. Sandy loam soils over porphyry provide the foundation for this single-varietal Cabernet Franc. With approximately 8,000 vines per hectare, the vineyard is characterised by particularly dense planting.
Harvest takes place between late September and mid-October. The Amistar concept also includes a proportion of late-harvested grapes. Following destemming, temperature-controlled fermentation on the skins takes place in stainless steel tanks. A portion of the juice is removed to increase the ratio of grape skins to must, creating greater concentration. The wine then matures for one year in barrique barrels, one-third of which are new.
In the glass, the Amistar displays a brilliant ruby-red colour. Its complex bouquet combines aromas of blackberries and dark red fruits with delicate hints of blackcurrant leaves and forest floor. On the palate, it is elegant and smooth, with silky tannins, intense fruit flavours and a harmonious, lingering finish.
