Barolo DOCG Ginestra Pajana
The Barolo DOCG Ginestra Pajana 2022 from Domenico Clerico is made exclusively from Nebbiolo and comes from the Pajana parcel within the Ginestra MGA in Monforte d’Alba. The vineyards lie at around 330 to 340 metres above sea level and face east to south-east. The vines were planted in two stages, in 1971 and 1991. The soils contain a high proportion of active limestone and are composed mainly of silt, with additional sand and clay. Geologically, the site belongs to the Serravallian Lequio Formations, which date back around eleven to twelve million years.
The name Pajana derives from an old road at the upper part of the hill that once connected Monforte d’Alba with Serralunga. The first separate vintage of this Barolo was produced in 1990. The site delivers an expressive interpretation of Ginestra, combining power with remarkable complexity. In the glass, it shows a ruby-red colour. The nose reveals dark plum, blackberry and sour cherry, complemented by juniper, wild thyme and marjoram. On the palate, it is medium- to full-bodied, with polished tannins, dense structure and a concentrated, persistent finish.
