Chardonnay Buchholz comes from selected vineyards on the terraced slopes above Salorno in South Tyrol’s Bassa Atesina. The historic name “Buchholz” for this area was already documented in cadastral records dating back to 1858. The vineyards lie at elevations between 400 and 800 metres on soils characterised by dolomitic sedimentary rock. The area features significant climatic differences between the valley floor and higher elevations, together with regular air movement: the warmer “Ora” blows from the south in the afternoon, while a cooler breeze arrives from the north in the morning. Before pressing, the grapes remain in contact with their skins for several hours to enhance the wine’s fruity character. They are then gently pressed, followed by fermentation in large wooden casks. In the glass, the Chardonnay displays a greenish-yellow colour. The aroma is distinctive and fruity, with notes of ripe banana and pineapple. On the palate, it is fresh, juicy and mineral, with pleasant fullness and an inviting, persistent finish.
