The Pinot Blanc Helios 2022 from Ansitz Kränzel is a complex and elegant white wine from Cermes near Merano. The grapes come from the estate's oldest vines, growing on moraine and granite soils. Careful grape selection provides the foundation for its distinctive character and remarkable depth. To capture different levels of ripeness and aromatic complexity, the grapes are harvested in up to three separate passes. Part of the harvest undergoes cold maceration, while around 20% of the grapes are fermented on their skins. The wine then matures for twelve months on the gross lees in a large new wooden cask, followed by up to two additional years on the fine lees. It is bottled without filtration, preserving its natural expression. In the glass, Helios displays an intense golden-yellow colour. The bouquet reveals aromas of ripe peach, yellow apple and quince. On the palate, mineral nuances combine with refreshing acidity, hints of marzipan, vanilla and subtle smoky notes. Touches of tropical fruit and a long, lingering finish complete this expressive and characterful Pinot Blanc.
