The Lagrein Tauris 2022 from Ansitz Kränzel is a characterful red wine from Cermes near Merano, distinguished by intense fruit aromas, spicy nuances and a harmonious structure. Lagrein, a native South Tyrolean grape variety, thrives on the sun-drenched south-facing slopes around Merano. Soils shaped by moraine deposits and granite provide the foundation for this expressive wine. Following careful grape selection, the wine undergoes ten days of fermentation on the skins, allowing colour, aromas and tannins to be extracted. Tauris then matures for 17 months, primarily in used French oak barrels, with a small proportion aged in new oak. This maturation process supports the development of its fruit character while adding depth and structure. In the glass, Tauris displays a deep ruby-red colour with violet reflections. The bouquet reveals aromas of ripe cherries, blackcurrants and violets, complemented by notes of black pepper and liquorice. On the palate, it is full-bodied and fruit-driven, with spicy accents, juicy sour cherries and velvety tannins. The finish is long and lingering.
