The Vernatsch Baslan 2025 from Ansitz Kränzel is a distinctive organic red wine from Cermes near Merano, combining fruity lightness with delicate spice and elegant structure. The grapes grow on the sun-drenched slopes of the Merano basin, on soils shaped by moraine deposits and granite. Careful yield reduction and meticulous vineyard work provide the foundation for high-quality grapes with a pronounced varietal character. The grapes are harvested by hand in several passes. A portion undergoes fermentation on the skins with the stems, adding further structure to the wine. Baslan then matures for up to seven months on the lees in used oak barriques, developing additional aromatic depth. In the glass, it displays a bright cherry-red colour. The bouquet reveals aromas of raspberries, cherries, fresh hay, almond blossoms and delicate spices. On the palate, it is fruity and spicy, with hints of toasted almonds, velvety tannins and a surprisingly long, powerful finish.
