The Sagittarius 2021 from Ansitz Kränzel is an expressive red wine blend from Cermes near Merano, combining Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. The grapes come from the estate's oldest vines, growing on soils shaped by moraine deposits and granite. Sagittarius is produced only in particularly favourable vintages and was first made in 1985. Only carefully selected grapes are harvested by hand for this wine. Following temperature-controlled fermentation on the skins, the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation. The cuvée then matures for 28 months in new French oak barriques. This extended oak ageing adds depth and supports the development of its complex structure. The combination of the three grape varieties creates a distinctive yet harmonious character. In the glass, Sagittarius displays a light garnet-red colour with paler edges. The bouquet reveals intense aromas of redcurrants and cherries, complemented by delicate notes of tobacco and leather. On the palate, it is full-bodied and velvety, with ripe, fine-grained tannins, lively freshness and a long, elegant finish.
