Lagrein Riserva DOC Gries
The Lagrein Riserva Gries 2022 from Nals Margreid originates from the historic wine-growing area of Gries near Bolzano in South Tyrol. The vineyards lie at approximately 250 metres above sea level in the warm Bolzano basin. Sandy alluvial soils containing porphyry, combined with a Mediterranean-influenced climate, provide ideal conditions for Lagrein, an indigenous grape variety that develops its distinctive character in this region.
The grapes are carefully harvested by hand and, after destemming, fermented in stainless steel tanks. The wine then matures for twelve months in barriques, followed by another year of bottle ageing. The Riserva designation reflects an extended maturation period, allowing the wine to develop a harmonious structure and greater aromatic complexity.
In the glass, the Lagrein Riserva displays an intense, deep ruby-red colour. Its bouquet combines expressive aromas of Maraschino cherries with juniper, delicate spices and subtle hints of forest floor. On the palate, it impresses with remarkable freshness, juicy fruit and an elegant, refined structure. The long, lingering finish highlights its balanced and distinctive character.
