The Lagrein Riserva Segen from Kellerei Meran is a distinctive red wine from South Tyrol, beautifully expressing the character of the indigenous Lagrein grape variety. The grapes come from the steep vineyards of Segenbühel above Merano, situated at altitudes between 300 and 400 metres. The warm, dry locations and heat-retaining soils composed of porphyry, weathered rock and glacial deposits provide favourable conditions for even grape ripening.
As a Riserva, this wine undergoes an extended maturation period, enhancing its structure and aromatic complexity. Following approximately 10–15 days of fermentation and malolactic fermentation, the Lagrein is aged for 16 months in barriques. This process adds depth and develops its elegant yet powerful personality. In the glass, it displays a deep, dark garnet-red colour. The complex bouquet reveals aromas of cherries, liquorice, leather and dark chocolate. On the palate, it is powerful yet smooth, with firm, well-integrated tannins and an elegant structure. The finish is refined and long-lasting.
