The Lagrein Riserva DOC Trigon 2022 by Hans Rottensteiner is a particularly intense expression of one of South Tyrol’s most important indigenous grape varieties. The grapes come from a selected vineyard in the heart of Gries, Bolzano, in the area known as the “Grüner Keil”. The vines are more than 30 years old. Yields are deliberately kept low in the vineyard and the grapes are selected by hand, with the aim of producing a Lagrein with depth, precision and strong character. After fermentation in concrete tanks, the wine matures for around twelve months in barriques. It then undergoes a further 18 months of bottle ageing. This extended maturation adds structure and combines the powerful nature of Lagrein with mature, spicy and finely integrated oak nuances. In the glass, the wine appears dark and intense. The bouquet shows typical Lagrein aromas of violet, chocolate and liquorice, joined by notes of tobacco, spice and vanilla. On the palate, it is powerful, dense and expressive, with impressive depth and a long, spicy finish. A distinctive South Tyrolean Lagrein Riserva with remarkable presence.
